Lightning carries an immense amount of energy, enough to transform sand into glass upon impact. In the blink of an eye, the surface of the sand becomes hotter than the surface of the sun and crystallizes immediately. Commonly referred to as “petrified lightning” or “fossilized lightning”, these petrified pieces are called Fulgurites, stemming from the Latin word “fulger”, meaning “lightning”. The heat of the bolt vaporizes the center of the Fulgurite, leaving it with a tubular form. They are essentially hollow, glass-lined tubes with sand adhering to the outside. Included is 1 40-49mm Fulgurite. Note that the exact length will vary.
